On this hike you get two trails in one! We’ve taken the Daisy Geyser hike, added on the Artemisia trail hike, and topped it off with a stroll in the Upper Geyser Basin between Daisy Geyser and Morning Glory, to give you this triangular hike, which has something of everything!
The hike is approximately three miles (4.8 kilometres) long, and can be done in either direction. We generally like to do the Daisy Geyser hiking trail first, and try and arrive at Daisy in time for a predicted eruption. The trail goes past a couple of thermal features, but covers open meadows and a section of forest rather than thermal features, until we get to the Daisy Group of Geysers.
There are several geysers and thermal features in the Daisy Group, and we can check them out while we wait for Daisy Geyser to erupt.
From Daisy we’ll join the boardwalks of the Upper Geyser Basin and make our way towards Riverside Geyser, which is a particularly attractive geyser right on the Firehole River. Depending on the predicted eruption times, we may wait for Riverside to erupt, rather than Daisy.
Morning Glory Pool, one of Yellowstone’s iconic sights, is a short distance away, and from there we’ll pick up the Artemisia Trail. This trail runs alongside the Firehole River part of the way, and there are a lot more thermal features on this side of the Firehole River than on the Daisy Geyser side.
There are some beautiful, colorful hot springs on the way, but Artemisia Geyser is the highlight of this part of the trail, especially as you stand on a cliff, looking down on the geyser.
If you’re short of time, you can consider doing the Daisy Geyser hike, or the Artemisia trail hike individually instead.
We also offer another two longer hikes, which include both the Artemisia Trail and the Daisy Geyser Trail. They both start at Old Faithful, and the difference is that one of them goes to Mystic Falls and then turns around, while the other visits Mystic Falls, and continues on to the Biscuit Basin overlook.
